Enekén Estudio and architect Miguel Tapia didn't renovate this house so much as listen to it. What came back was something rooted — limestone walls, vaulted ceilings built using the traditional bahpek system, original features preserved not as nostalgia but as structural honesty. Henequen, the material that once defined the Yucatán's economy and identity, runs through the furniture, the finishes, the decorative details. Chukum waterproofing, mahogany wood, preserved trees, and tropical plants fill every gap between inside and out. Nothing here was imported from somewhere else.

The house announces itself from the street through a circular window — a small, deliberate reveal of the life happening inside. Past it, a fresh green courtyard opens up under a large mango tree that has clearly been there longer than anyone can remember. The pool sits beneath it. So does the backgammon board, if the afternoon calls for it. The living room never closes its doors. Three bedrooms offer their own quiet accumulations — art, antiques, things worth pausing in front of.

This is El Fénix, a neighborhood that lives up to its name: old bones, renewed energy, the kind of block that rewards the walk back to it. The house fits perfectly — historic enough to carry weight, considered enough to wear it lightly.
