Mazunte is a tiny, laid-back village on Oaxaca's Pacific coast, known for its wild, largely undeveloped beaches and strong counterculture / eco-conscious vibe. It draws travelers who want the opposite of a resort scene - think palapa guesthouses, cliff-top yoga shalas, and mezcal at sunset. Playa Mazunte and Playa San Agustinillo are the main draws, with calm bays ideal for swimming and bodyboarding. The area sits close to Punta Cometa, one of Mexico's southernmost points and arguably the best sunset lookout on the coast.
