Casa Mejorada

In Mérida's Centro, you never know what is behind the door. Ours opens onto a 16th-century house that is entirely yours: three bedrooms for up to six guests, a private pool wrapped around a fragment of the original masonry, and gardens shaded by trees that were here long before the restoration. Come back from the city, close the door, and let the day slow down.

The space

The house was restored by the Mérida studio Oriundo Taller around three living trees, including a 100-year-old oak, and was nominated for ArchDaily's Building of the Year 2024. Beams rise six meters above the kitchen, fragments of hand-painted fresco remain high on the wall, and arched steel-frame glass doors open the living room to the garden. Outside, the pool curves around the old stonework and is lit from below after dark, with hammocks between the walls and a covered terrace for long dinners. Solar panels keep everything running during the occasional power outage in Centro.

Bedrooms

The primary bedroom has a king bed, an en suite bathroom, a private garden and an outdoor shower open to the sky. The second bedroom has a king bed, an en suite bathroom, and glass doors that open straight onto the pool. The third has a full bed and shares the other bathrooms plus a half bath off the courtyard, so it suits a group traveling together. Every room has air conditioning, ceiling fans and blackout curtains, and housekeeping is included during your stay.

Good to know

Adults only (18+), four-night minimum. The pool is unfenced and unsupervised. It's a lively historic neighborhood, so expect the ordinary sounds of the city by day.

The neighborhood

The house is half a block from La Mejorada Park, in one of Mérida's oldest barrios. Calle 47's restaurants are a 10-minute walk, and Plaza Grande, Santa Lucía and Paseo de Montejo are all within about 15 minutes on foot.

Guest access

The whole house is yours, with keyless entry and a local co-host nearby. Round-trip airport transfer is included, and your concierge can arrange grocery stocking, private tours to cenotes and Uxmal, restaurant reservations and in-home massage for an additional charge.
