West of Mazunte, past the point, the beach at Mermejita opens out wide and quiet, with the village close enough that coffee, lunch or a late dinner in town is a short walk away. The house sits right on that shoreline. It’s new, designed by an architect for this site, and organised so a large group can share the ocean without ever feeling stacked on top of one another.

The main house holds two king bedrooms facing the water, each with its own bathroom. Behind them, a third room with two queen beds and two sets of bunks takes the children, or whoever arrives last. Out in the garden, two bungalows stand apart from everything else, each with a separate bedroom and a pool of its own. One has a king bed, the other two queens. For couples travelling within a bigger group, they’re the closest thing to a private house inside a shared one.

Evenings move upward. There’s a fire pit on the top terrace, and the pool catches the sunset over the Pacific. When the weather turns or the kids need a break from the sun, a TV room with board games sits ready. Starlink keeps the connection steady, and Sonos speakers run through nearly every part of the house.

A housekeeper and cook are on site daily from morning until late afternoon, so breakfast and the long shared lunches are handled. Dinner service can be added at an extra cost, and groceries, supplies and tips are paid separately. A dedicated staff room means a nanny can travel with the family and stay on the property. The house sleeps up to 16, though it’s at its best with 10 to 12 adults, when the common spaces and the lunch table still feel generous rather than full.

Where you’ll be staying

Mazunte is a tiny, laid-back village on Oaxaca's Pacific coast, known for its wild, largely undeveloped beaches and strong counterculture / eco-conscious vibe. It draws travelers who want the opposite of a resort scene - think palapa guesthouses, cliff-top yoga shalas, and mezcal at sunset. Playa Mazunte and Playa San Agustinillo are the main draws, with calm bays ideal for swimming and bodyboarding. The area sits close to Punta Cometa, one of Mexico's southernmost points and arguably the best sunset lookout on the coast.
