Brutalist Home in Puerto Escondido

A brutalist refuge by architect Ludwig Godefroy located on the Mexican Pacific coast in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

The concept behind this brutalist home turns the traditional house-with-a-garden design inside out, creating a space where the garden becomes the heart of the home. This innovative approach allows residents to fully immerse themselves in the tropical lifestyle, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The house invites the breeze to flow freely through its spaces, creating a living environment that is both open and connected to nature.

The facade, a fundamental element in architecture, is intentionally minimized. By eliminating windows and glass, the design dissolves the connection to urban life, embracing a more natural and raw aesthetic. The garden seamlessly integrates with the living areas, forming a continuous, habitable garden where the distinction between inside and outside fades away. The result is a unique living space that remains open day and night, offering an uninterrupted connection to the surrounding environment.

The idea behind the project consists of inverting the traditional model of a house with a garden and transform it into a garden with a house.

The home proposes to remove everything that is unnecessary (finishes, doors, windows) and keep only the essentials for this project (V-slab, adjoining walls, mezzanine, and front gate), allowing a larger and more generous space to achieve the main idea of the project: a garden with a house. 

Please note: This home is not suitable for kids due the easy access to the roof. The whole area is now in hypergrowth therefore there are several constructions in the surroundings . The noise is only during daytime. We apologize for any inconvenience, this is out of our control.
