Cliffside Villa in Mazunte

Seemingly carved into the hillside, this 2-bedroom villa is gracefully distributed on the cliffs overlooking Mermejita Beach. Conceived by architect Ivan Esqueda Martinez and interior designer Gala Sánchez-Renero Labelle of EM Estudio, the design embraces the elements of weather, salt, sun, and humidity to further incorporate the architecture into its coastal setting.

The architecture adapts to the mountain's topography, revealing its spaces gradually as you ascend or descend the interior staircases, creating a sense of discovery. The breathable, local materials integrate seamlessly with their environment through floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto the sea. This promotes constant airflow to cool the home while remaining in constant conversation with the outside.

This listing is for the main home, which  has 2-bedrooms home and can accommodate up to 4 people - with up to four additional hillside villas that can be added at an additional cost. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, while the second offers your choice of a king-size double or twin beds. If you need more space, capacity can be increased just let us know.

The home’s centerpiece is the vast living and dining area, which also features a fully equipped open-plan kitchen. An interior patio and grand terrace face onto the 13.5-meter infinity pool, offering breathtaking sunset vistas over the sea. Every room has a ceiling fan. 

Access to the property is via two independent entrances, one leading to parking and another providing pedestrian access at the beach level. Practical elements such as ceiling fans, mosquito nets, wooden shutters, and safes are subtly integrated into the design. A note for remote workers: while the WiFi signal in the house is generally reliable, occasional disruptions might occur due to regional infrastructure. Though efforts will be taken to ensure connectivity, it cannot be entirely guaranteed. 

The villa offers both seclusion and access to a thriving beach community. Mazunte is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere, yoga studios, eco-friendly shops, and casual culinary scene. You can stroll along the beach, explore the local shops and stalls, or simply unwind in the villa's private sanctuary.

To reach the villa, fly into Huatulco International Airport (HUX) or Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM). Both have connections from major Mexican airports, with HUX also having direct flights from Chicago, Dallas, and (unusually) several hubs in Canada. When you arrive, take a scenic one-hour drive along the coast in a hired car or taxi. Take note that there aren’t any banks in Mazunte, and it’s quite common for the ATM to be out of order. Come prepared with cash. 

There is no air conditioning.
