Sunlight leaks through the canopy in slow, moving patterns — the Japanese have a word for it: komorebi, light filtered through leaves. This villa is built around that feeling. Japanese minimalism, dropped into the raw green sprawl of Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast.
The bedrooms don't touch the ground. They hover on a network of hardwood walkways above the jungle floor, so sleeping here feels less like staying somewhere and more like floating through it. Below, the canopy runs straight to Bahía Ballena National Park, where the Whale's Tail sandbar surfaces with the tide.
Finished in late 2024, designed by one of the region's most forward-thinking architects and dressed by a top Costa Rican design studio — everything here is new, hand-chosen, built for lingering. This is a lounger-and-a-cold-drink kind of house.
Sleep
Three suites. Two twinned master rooms face the ocean directly — king beds angled so the sea is the first and last thing you see, walk-in closets behind. The third looks the other way, into the canopy: two queens, two bunk-style singles, wildlife instead of waves. Sleeps 10. No children under 5.
A zen deck outside holds a loveseat, hanging chairs, and room to stretch, ringed by a sunlit garden that ties the whole layout together.
Live
The infinity pool deck is the gravity center — views toward Isla del Caño, a table for ten, a fresh grill, loungers spaced with intent. It doubles as a wildlife lookout: howler monkeys in the trees, scarlet macaws overhead, humpbacks offshore if you've got binoculars and patience. Inside, the kitchen and living space carry the same hand-crafted feel — and, rare for this region, they're air-conditioned too.
Fast wifi, new kitchen, in-unit laundry, outdoor sound, parking for several cars, rainwater collection.
Explore
Minutes from Uvita, reachable by 4x4, with beaches like Playa Ventanas and Playa Achote nearby. Surf, zipline, raft, hike, fish, dive — the whole southern Pacific playbook is on the doorstep. An on-site team handles check-in, checkout, and everything in between — chefs, massage, tours — so the only job left is showing up.
An old Japanese proverb: happiness is to hold flowers in both hands. Here, they're already within reach.
