Santa Teresa sits on the Pacific edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, where the jungle runs right down to the coast. This house is set back from the main road in a quiet residential pocket, high enough to look out over the trees to the ocean. Mornings start early here. Birds are up before anyone else, and it’s not unusual to have monkeys passing through the canopy while the coffee’s brewing.

The pool is the heart of the place. It’s an infinity edge facing west, so the water seems to run straight into the ocean beyond, and in the evenings the whole terrace turns towards the sunset. Inside, the ground floor is open and easy, with a large living room flowing into a dining area that seats the whole group and a fully equipped kitchen for those who like to cook. Upstairs, three suites each have their own bathroom, air conditioning and a view of the sea.

Being this close to the jungle comes with the territory. Insects, monkeys and the odd unexpected visitor are part of daily life on the peninsula, and the house doesn’t try to shut that out. It’s the same reason the mornings sound the way they do.

Daily housekeeping can be arranged to keep things running smoothly, and a private chef is available on request for anyone who’d rather not cook, both at an additional cost. There’s private parking on site, and the house is booked for exclusive use.
