Designer Home in Oaxaca

This stunning home is a Mexican renovation of an 1980s house in the historic center of Oaxaca City. The project, led by the Topometasis studio (Iván Ramírez and Fabiola González), focused on creating open spaces that interact with the surroundings, using wooden latticework to manage light, shadow, and privacy.

The ground floor features four rooms opening onto a central courtyard, which links the living/dining area, bar, and kitchen. This area utilizes a steel structure integrating cantera stone columns with wooden beams and terracotta bricks to support planters. A concrete staircase leads to the upper floor, where two bedroom pavilions were added. The junior room is closed and introspective, while the master bedroom opens entirely to terraces with views of Santo Domingo.

Finishes include lime-polished walls in local green tones characteristic of cantera stone, with the central courtyard highlighted in crimson. Vegetation is integrated throughout the design—patios, terraces, and walkways—to provide shade, freshness, and tranquility.
